Last blog entry for now.

While preparing for my fight, I received the news that my father had passed away. I’ve had to cancel the fight and come back home to deal with matters here. I plan to comeback soon to finish what I started.

In the meantime, I will be releasing 3 FREE downloadable webisodes on CST inspired workouts for – improving the Thai low kick, improve punching power and developing a clinch that had everyone here scratching their heads wandering why I was able to knee and throw them at will.

Thanks for following and the support. The first webisode – ‘Drills for Improving the Thai Round Kick’ – should be downloadable next week.

Another level…

Ok, i have been given a fight date which is the 1st Feb in Phuket stadium! Its kind of cool to be having pictures of me taken so they can go on the promotional posters that will be put up everywhere.

I’ve finally got the video equipment to work so below is a short clip. Cardio is ok and i should have enough time to peak. Anyway, second session of the day, 5th round :)

Lightbulb moment…

Had an awesome light bulb moment today whilst training. Kicking the thai pads I realised that there was something acting like a handbrake inhibiting me from hitting with full speed and power.

After a quick analysis of my movement using intuflow and other techniques from the CST system, I discovered that because I had not been sleeping on my own bed, I had some restrictions in my neck which were holding me back. After I took my neck through some basic mobility exercises – my kicks increased in power by at least 10% !

Turning up the heat

Training was particularly tough today as the heat was crazy. We started with a 30 minute run followed by 30 mins skipping, 4 rounds of shadow boxing, 4 rounds of bag work, 4 rounds sparring and the only thing that got me through and stopped me from keeling over and collapsing was coach sonnons RESET technique that he’d taught me – invaluable! Every fighter wanting elite level performance needs this info. I’ve even got it to the stage where i can ‘RESET’ in between timed bursts during sparring!
I’ve now been moved to the advanced class :)
Sparring

Back in action…

Sorry i haven’t blogged for a while – i’ve had to deal with a few issues here. Anyway, i’ve convinced my coach to let me warm up and prime my body in a more correct and up to date fashion. We have both been pleased with the results and he will be integrating this stuff with his private clients and in classes from now on. Heres how it looks;

Intuflow – emphasis on lower spine, pelvis, hips, knees and ankles.
Dynamic leg raises – to the front rear and each side
4 corner balance drills (adv)

then we start skipping – switching footwork and rhythms every 30 seconds for 20 minutes.
Shadow boxing – working 3 specific combos using different footwork.
pads – working the same things on the pads as in the shadow boxing.

spar drills – now working those same 3 combos in different scenarios oscillating between symmetrical/asymetrical drills and soft/hard work.

Compensation exercises – specific movements taken from prasara yoga working the functional opposites of the over stressed movements and body parts.

Relaxed stretching – moving into an extended position and remaining there until my body ‘relaxes’ into a greater stretch.

My trainer appreciated the new way of structuring the workouts as it included many of the same things and had more sophisticated versions of other movements. Whats important is not only ‘what’ exercises but also the ‘when’.

Shadow Boxing…

After having my shadow boxing looked at by a couple of the coaches one of them approached me and said we should work together as he has a background in boxing and he can pad me thai style whilst incorporating the flow of boxing. I took him up on his offer and later found out that this coaches name is Chok Chai and he boxed Manny Pacqiou a few years ago!

Anyway, it was a great session, here are some pics :)

Bring it on…

I started in the beginner class this morning which cosisted of the usual – skipping, stretching, pad work, bag work and sparring. After this session the head trainer, Dang, moved me straight to the intermediate class. Cardio felt great considering the amount of work they had us doing over the 3 hour session. I was especially pleased with the fact that i blasted through the core/ab routine and most of the other body weight exercises – thanks Murdock (his CST bodyweight resource) and to the new prasara abs program I’ve been training :)

Having technical difficulties with my camera but when they are sorted, i shall be posting some vids.

First day in thailand

…and it is hot!
Cant wait to train in this heat tomorrow morning ;)

I got to tiger muay thai training camp around 10 pm and looked around – they have everything here! 3 rings, rows of bags, an mma cage, gym and even load of kettlebells.

Looking forward to getting stuck in, in the morning……

What this blog is about

What the blogs about;
I have been training martial arts for many years and have played about with thai boxing learning bits and bobs throughout the years. Where i enjoy and respect the art of Muay Thai for its incredibly hard training and savage style, the actual training methods (as in most traditional martial arts systems) leave a lot to be desired.

I want to learn this art and learn it properly and the only way to do that is by finding a thai boxing camp and train, sweat, bleed, eat, meditate and learn from the thais. Of coarse, i’m going to add a little CST and Flowfighting twist on things to get the most out of the daily training routines and to stay injury free.

After a months worth of instruction and training i will then put all the theory to the test in at least 1 full thai boxing match.

I will be keeping everyone up to date with my daily training log complete with video as well as changes i make to fit inline with CST and Flowfighting principles.
